I'm the Head of Operations of Document Direct, a virtual secretarial service working for Liverpool's top businesses. I'm a great believer in hard work=great results. I am now also a gadget freak and am constantly finding uses for new technology to help me work smarter. I don't understand people who refuse to adopt or adapt remain ignorant to the effects of it on their business.

The most unglamorous of Christmas parties

Tonight the virtual secretaries will be non-virtual and out in the flesh. We won't be showing any of it though as we'll be walking around Liverpool City Centre on the Shiverpool Ghost Tour on what is going to be the coldest night of the year. And snow is forecast. Perhaps for the the majority of us who who enjoy working from home this type of themed event appeals as it certainly won't involve any expensive purchases for snazzy sparkly dresses or new hair dos. I've already planned my outfit - thermal long johns, vest, jeans, jumper, boots, wooly hat, scarf and gloves. We'll look a right bunch when we arrive at the restaurant later for our meal and drinks - God knows we'll need the drink. I've asked my husband if I can borrow his hipflask (medicinal purposes only) to keep the frostbite away.

And the best part about the night will be all of the secretaries meeting each other - for the first time. We don't know who each other looks like so it promises to be fun before we even get on the tour.

Photos will be posted in a few days.

Well, this is the morning after (or should that be afternoon!) the night before. I am nursing a hangover (too many spirits but not of the Shiverpool kind) and also a sore throat from the Hammer House of horror-esque screams I produced last night. Fabulous night had by all I think everyone would agree. And it really gave the night an extra edge that we were actually putting faces to names for the first time. One lady I have worked with for 18 months, and we've never met, so it was really lovely to finally do that, and also our newer members of staff. Jayne did us proud (and her wonderful hubby Michael) and as I say, there were plenty of spirits flowing last night - and not just by the bombed out church. I can well recommend Shiverpool if anyone likes things that go bump in the night!
